I have visited Singapore on a couple of occasions now, and love how clean and safe it is. It also has one of the best airports I have ever been to! It was an absolute breeze to get through on both visits. The city state is extremely modern with some amazing skyscrapers, beautiful landscaping, well maintained infrastructure, whilst also having some elements of rich cultural heritage. So whether you're a foodie, an adventure seeker, or a culture enthusiast, Singapore has something for everyone.

Here are my top 10 things to do when visiting:

1. Gardens By The Bay

Gardens by the Bay can be described as a futuristic nature park. It features:

  • Supertree Grove (pictured) - Giant tree like structures that light up at night.

  • Cloud Forest & Flower Dome - Stunning floral displays and a misty indoor waterfall.

2. Marina Bay Sands

Probably one of the most iconic landmarks in Singapore is Marina Bay Sands. A large scale resort featuring a 1,850 room hotel, casino, shopping mall, multiple restaurants/bars and convention facilities. The infinity pool is perched on the roof and links the three buildings, whilst offering amazing views. The pool is for the use of hotel guests only, but you can get tickets for the SkyPark Observation Deck.

3. Chinatown

Singapore’s Chinatown has a real buzz about it and there is plenty to do. There is of course the street markets, where you will find many souvenirs and handmade items, but there is also the stunning Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and some great hidden speakeasy bars like The Library. For a variety of amazing food options, head to Maxwell Food Centre and try dishes such as Hainanese chicken rice, char kway teow, and chili crab.

4. Orchard Road

Orchard Road is a shoppers paradise. It is a 2.2 km stretch that is lined with luxury shopping malls like ION Orchard, Ngee Ann City, and Paragon. A good time to visit is between June-July when the Great Singapore sale is on.

5. Sentosa Island

Sentosa is an island off the south coast of Singapore that is full of entertainment. It includes attractions such as Universal Studios (amusement park), S.E.A. Aquarium, Adventure Cove Waterpark and Palawan Beach. A great way to get there is via a cable car from Mount Faber for stunning aerial views!

6. Hawker Centers

There are some fantastic food options in Singapore, but some can be extremely expensive. A great place I found to visit is Hawker Centers, which offer a large variety of affordable and delicious food, in a very sociable setting.

Top Hawker Centers are Lau Pa Sat, Tiong Bahru Market and Old Airport Road Food Centre.

7. Little India

You can experience Indian culture in a great way in the district of Little India, filled with brightly painted buildings, colourful street art, neon lights and temples. Some key places to check out are Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple and Mustafa Centre, which sells everything from gold to groceries.

8. Night Safari at the Nocturnal Zoo

The Singapore Night Safari is an amazing one of a kind experience. You will be able to see over 2,500 nocturnal animals as you explore on various walking trials and a fantastic guided tram ride tour. There is also a Creatures of the Night Show, which gives a fun, interactive animal presentation. Animals at the safari include tigers, lions, deers, owls and rhinos.

9. Haji Lane

Haji Lane is situated in the Malay-Arab quarter of Singapore, and is a narrow street filled with street art, vintage stores, and rooftop bars, with a stunning Sultan Mosque situated nearby.

10. Singapore Zoo

Singapore Zoo is ranked as one of the best wildlife parks in the world. It is absolutely incredible. The zoo is home to over 2,800 animals spread out over 26 hectares of rainforest. Animals include polar bears, hippos, orangutans, white tigers, and giant pandas.

Final Thoughts

Singapore offers a great mix of modern luxury and cultural charm. I think about 3 to 4 days is enough time to spend there, and the above list should keep you busy and fully entertained during your stay. As lovely as Singapore is, it can be fairly expensive, so is best to carefully plan your itinerary before your visit. However, if money is no object, then you can truly indulge yourself in some high end luxury!
